Working While Studying
If you are a full time student on a scholarship, your contract will stipulate how many hours of part time work you can do, without seeking permission from your supervisor and the Responsible Academic Officer (usually about 8 hours per week). This is to protect you (and your PhD) as you are expected to put in at least 35 hours per week on your doctoral studies. If you have special circumstances for a period of time, talk to your supervisor and see whether a case can be made. Remember, if you don’t make satisfactory progress on your studies, an excuse of having paid work will not be accepted (it’s in your contract).
